Expand your viewpoint

The desire for health and wellness is not uniquely American, and opportunities to learn from other countries and cultures can provide useful insight and perspective. Best of all, the study abroad programs from ASU and the College of Health Solutions can fit almost any schedule, ranging from as little as seven days to a full semester.

Exploring education abroad

Global Intensive Experiences and faculty-directed programs offer enriching study abroad opportunities. Global Intensive Experiences are short, seven- to 12-day trips during school breaks that extend semester coursework and connect studies to international themes. Faculty-directed programs, lasting 12 days to a month or more, provide deeper subject exploration during summer, offering credit and hands-on learning while immersing in local cultures alongside ASU students and faculty.

Dec. 30–Jan. 7, 2027

Earn one upper division credit

This study abroad program explores the dynamic relationship between food, health, and global exchange in Portugal - one of Europe’s most historic crossroads. Students will examine how agricultural traditions, medical knowledge, and trade networks have shaped Portuguese society from the past to the present. Through a blend of academic site visits, hands-on workshops, and cultural experiences, the program highlights the ways food and health systems are connected and influenced by global flows of people, plants, and ideas. By the end, participants gain a broader understanding of how Portugal’s legacy offers insights into today’s conversations about diet, medicine, and globalization.
